Flute & Guitar Students

Five hour core including: master class, repertoire class, technique class, flute/guitar ensembles and a choice of Creative Movement or Arts and Crafts (up to age six) or “Rhythm in the Bones” (ages seven and up).

  • Creative Movement—Movement classes will allow students to hear music with their whole bodies and help them to further develop coordination and confidence in moving. Classes will encourage imagination, exploration, creative problem solving, and self-expression inside a community. Creative dance will give students a chance to play and improvise with an instrument we all use every day—our bodies. Instructor—Kristine Butler Ward
  • Rhythm in the Bones—Rhythm in the Bones will be based on afro-latin and afro-brazilian rhythms. Clave will be the main focus. Students will be taught basic drumming techniques as well as stepping and vocalizing rhythms. Instructor—Pepe Danza, a long time favorite at past institutes and we are excited to have him back.

Flute/Guitar Ensembles:
All students will participate in a unique class featuring duets for flutes and guitars. All music will be played out of the following book:
MelBay presents “The Irish Flute” by Roger Holtman, MB# 93926, ISBN 0-87166-909-9
Students will receive their assign pieces after registration. Please purchase the book and be prepared to perform the assigned pieces.
